Artist Statement Biography

Farren van Wyk’s practice is a homecoming away from home, the meeting of two worlds and the space where she connects to the African diaspora.

The history between South Africa and the Netherlands is built on colonialism, slavery and apartheid. Through portraiture, she unravels the intertwined narratives that span centuries, exploring and connecting people, places, movements, personal history and memories. Photography is her medium to translate the relationship between my two homes. Creating her own iconography as a woman of colour between Africa and Europe.
