Artist Statement Biography
Felix Schoeppner (*1990, Germany) is a German photographer based in Leipzig. He studied Communication Design with a focus on Photography at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences from 2010 to 2021 under Kris Scholz and Michael Kerstgens. From 2021 to 2026, he continued his studies with a Master’s degree in Visual Communication at Bauhaus University Weimar, studying in the class of Birgit Wudtke.
Schoeppner’s artistic practice understands photography as an integral part of an expanded, installation-based process that engages with questions of perception, order, and the construction of reality. Beginning in documentary photography, his work shifted towards still life in 2018. Within precisely composed image spaces, he combines materials, objects, and photographic techniques into analytical arrangements that function as experimental setups.
His work is characterized by formal rigor, conceptual clarity, and a reduced visual language—an approach that resonates with the traditions of New Objectivity while translating them into a contemporary context. Alongside his artistic practice, Schoeppner has worked extensively as a photographic assistant on national and international productions. He has been a member of the Deutscher Werkbund since 2019 and has been teaching at universities since 2022.
