Artist Statement Biography
Lena Becerra is an artist and researcher working across multiple mediums whose practice explores prosthetic ecologies and speculative anatomies through hybrid installations at the intersection of art, philosophy, science, and technology. Working with prosthetic-grade silicone, blown glass, metal, and sensor-driven liquid systems, her work investigates how synthetic and organic matter form gestational ecosystems that challenge binary notions of body/machine, nature/technology, and subject/object.Informed by a migrant experience, her work invokes hybridization and humidity as a living and political archive, configuring artificial ecosystems in which the prosthetic becomes a language for inhabiting the strange, the displaced, and the possible.
Lena studied a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts at the National University of La Plata in Buenos Aires, Argentina and specialized in New Media, Installations and Sculpture studies at Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy. She continued her training in the areas of Jewellery, Literature, Glassblowing, Metalwork and Creative Writing, amongst others.
She has exhibited widely across Europe, Australia, and Latin America, and has been awarded international residencies, prizes and fellowships, including the Alexander Tutsek Stiftung (Germany/ US), the Stiftung Berliner Leben’s Stiftung (Berlin), and SRISA (Florence). She participated in the 2025 cohort of the PIP at the Institute for Postnatural Studies (Madrid) and was also awarded with the first prize at the Frankston Arts Centre in 2021 (Melbourne, Australia).
