Artist Statement Biography

Drew Poland is a visual artist and photographer based in Baltimore, Maryland. His work explores the relationships between community, space, and subculture, focusing on how people build meaning and belonging within self-made environments. His long-term project Until the Sky Changes documents an off-grid skatepark community in rural Ohio, centering on the people who live, gather, and sustain the space. The work looks at how harmony, care, and identity emerge within environments shaped by both chaos and collaboration. Poland’s ongoing project Local Skaters examines Baltimore’s skateparks as social ecosystems, highlighting the individuality of the people who occupy them and the ways public space becomes personal through shared use. This work will be displayed in a solo exhibition at Metro Gallery in January 2026. Poland’s work has been featured in Confusion Magazine, SK8 Skateboarding Magazine, and Derail Freight Zine. His photographs have been exhibited at Maryland Art Place in Baltimore and Dusk Photo Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, among others.
