Artist Statement Biography

Untitled Sea Project

On a daily basis I hold a desire to quit my job, drop everything, and disappear to a place where I can be completely left alone.

In 2010 I discovered the Salton Sea, a desolate area about 3 hours south of Los Angeles, CA. I immediately was drawn to the sea. I had made sporadic trips for several years but eventually in 2020 I began returning regularly and continue to go quite frequently to this day. I have even considered purchasing a plot of land there despite the environmental issues that plague the area. I am hooked, I don’t want botulism but I am hooked. Not only is the space intriguing as a respite for me but I find the history quite compelling, a once bustling resort destination that Frank Sinatra would come and visit transforming into a dilapidated squatting ground for many and now it seems to be undergoing a new change with farming on the rise as well as bio thermal plants emerging and lithium mining. So I make trips and search for things that resonate with me and this place that verges on some sort of abnormal isolation.
