Artist Statement Biography

Bella Convertino (b. 1998, New York) is an American artist and writer currently based in Portland, Maine. Interested in mapping the formal and psychological elements of the tech sector as suggestive of latent crisis, Convertino employs photography, video, and language to stress imaginary dynamics between authority and the body; the citation of ecology in the production of corporate philosophy; and the theater of the technocratic stage. Her work has been shown at Webber Gallery, Gladstone Gallery, Kommunale Galerie Berlin, Samek Art Museum, and others. She is the recipient of the 2025 Ward Cheney Memorial Award from the Yale School of Art, a 2024 residency at the Pasanella Artist Residency Program (IT), and a 2022 fellowship at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her work is held in collections at the Modern Museum of Art Library (NY) and the SE Center for Photography (SC).

Convertino received her MFA in Photography from the Yale School of Art in 2025, and is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art and Visual Culture at Bates College.
