Artist Statement Biography

Anna Samara is a Greek visual artist based in New York. She earned an Integrated Master’s Degree from Athens School of Fine Arts (2021) and her MFA at Parsons School of Design (2024), supported by a scholarship. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at The Opening Gallery in New York, Gallerie Bart in Amsterdam, U10 Art Space in Belgrade, and Crux Galerie in Athens.

Utilizing scientific tools and technologies such as thermal imaging and photography, Samara's work interrogates the politics of representation in traditional media. Her paintings, which incorporate imagery from nature documentaries, pop culture, and both real and imagined sources, explore the dynamic between observer and subject. By creating compositions that sometimes overlap or stand apart, she examines the complex relationship of "predator and prey," reflecting on the tension between seeing and being seen in an age of social media and pervasive surveillance.
