Amber Toplisek (b. 1995) collects, creates, and appropriates images to subsequently abstract them to the edge of recognition. Fountains, flowers, reflections and pathways are common subjects, all assembled into fragile glass compositions. The works are hung with separation from the wall, reflecting their colors onto the space to create an intangible facsimile, protected by the glass. What emerges are compositions that oscillate between familiarity and uncertainty, images that resist resolution and invite prolonged attention. The resulting works are visceral structures that ask the viewer to linger in uncertainty and to notice what is just visible, just missing, or just beyond comprehension.
