Artist Statement Biography

Brittany Holloway-Brown is a Brooklyn-based art director, designer, and visual artist originally from Bethlehem, PA. She earned her BFA in Illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work is rooted in romanticism, sensuality, and a fascination with the past, blending digital and traditional techniques to create textural and tactile work. Her practice centers on memory, legacy, and personal mythology, particularly through the lens of Black womanhood. Inspired by the endurance of old objects, Brittany reclaims and reassembles found materials, turning them into new narratives and symbolic artifacts. Collage is her primary medium, valued for its immediacy and accessibility. Through this form, she creates work that fuses everyday imagery with metaphor. Much of her conceptual framework draws from the writings of Toni Morrison, who mixed the ordinary with the surreal to explore Black life. Similarly, Brittany's work intertwines beauty, terror, and magic, inviting viewers into intimate worlds built on collective memory and fantasy. Her visual voice merges opulence with restraint, often drawing inspiration from vintage glamour, Art Deco, and the romantic. Whether in visual art or design, she celebrates adornment and sensuality, and seeks a balance between the grounded and otherworldly. Ultimately, she seeks to create modern talismans, artifacts that hold new meaning while honoring the past.
