Artist Statement Biography
I extract shapes from observational sketches of everyday, domestic moments. These forms serve as a starting point for my small to medium sized abstract oil paintings on canvas. Blanket folds on the bed, my partner’s arm as he takes a nap, the shadow cast by a soap dispenser in the shower. These intimate moments that I cherish are transformed into new and strange images with vibrant colors. By smearing edges, dragging a dry brush, and rubbing wet surfaces, I create a pictorial space that balances spontaneity with careful control.
