Artist based in Sejong, South Korea
CheongA Kang, Artist in the studio
Tell us about yourself, what's your background?
My background is quite interchangeable. Starting from a cartoon student and an illustrator in South Korea, and moving to London to study for an MA degree, then breaking through that borderline between drawing and maintaining a contemporary art practice. So far, I am producing short-moving images or video installations and flatten visual arts. How I knew I wanted to be an artist was natural. When I was a kid, I collected a bunch of comic books (about 700) in my room, which meant that I literally grew up with visual art.
Including comics and animations, every visible artwork is a part of my life.

What are you currently working on and where did the inspiration for it come from?
Texts, movies, everything that can be recognized in my eyes
Many artists live by their creative routines, do you have your own studio ritual? What does that look like for you?
Having a cup of coffee, which is essential. Sometimes I enjoy music when I am working, one specific thing is that I never listen to calm songs or love songs.
Who are your biggest influences?
A senior teacher who calls me a 'mental patient' behind my back.
What books or films are an important source of inspiration?
The Double, directed by Richard Ayoade
